Walking the tightrope
Mr C: Smooth sea won’t make skilful sailors
Ms M: But too rough a sea may drown the sailors
For the curious, this conversation happened a number of years back. But i have been thinking about this a lot only recently... hope it answers your question, ro.
Like all common-sensical logic, having too little of something may deprive you, but having too much of something (be it good or bad) may also harm you.
For instance:
- eat too little, u starve; eat too much, u get fat
- sleep too little, u get eye-bags; sleep too much, u feel like u slept too little
- study too little, u flunk exams; study too much, u go mad
- exercise too little, u become tardy; exercise too much, u may injure yourself
- blah blah blah (I’m pretty sure you have your own examples to continue this list…)
Oh no! So what do we do? Hit the panic button??? Haha yeah if u can find the button :p
Everyday is simply a struggle to find the balance between too little and too much. This point of equilibrium is dynamic, changing with every new circumstances that appear in front of us.
So if you ever thought you could find a balance and assume it will be status quo forever, you are in for a big surprise. This balance can never be static... or else humans would never have needed to adapt. And if we had never adapted, then we would have been wiped out during the Ice Age!
The sad but harsh truth is that we have to keep on finding a new balance every time! That is the mark of a true survivor!
Good night, and pls get enough sleep.
